Snow Days

Snow days may not follow school cancellations. Please call (781) DANCE38 after 1:00 p.m. on snowy days for a recorded message.

Prizes and Awards

Awards are presented to students with perfect attendance, those completing five and ten years of study, as well as to graduating high school seniors. The Elaine Richardson Prize—for dedication to dance, a positive attitude, and a helpful spirit; and the Sandra Philpott Prize in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz, are also awarded annually.

Special Activities

Throughout the year, intermediate and advanced students are invited to attend master classes, workshops, and special dance performances. By invitation and under the supervision of Holly Costa, a select group of Hazel Boone dancers will be traveling to New York City to take dance classes, sightsee and go to a Broadway Show during April school vacation week.

Dress Code

Hazel Boone students observe a dress code which fosters group identity and allows instructors to evaluate and correct student alignment and position.

For all classes, hair must be worn up. Buns are recommended.

Preschool (ages 3 and 4): Red leotard, red tights or white socks, white ballet shoes with elastic drawstring (White Capezio Daisy or Bloch #200 or #205) .

KinderBallet: Lavender leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes with elastic drawstring (Capezio Daisy™, Bloch #200, #205 or #258).

Ballet Levels 1, 2, 3: Black leotard, pink tights, pink split-sole ballet shoes (Bloch™ #258). No skirts.

Ballet Levels 4, 5B, 5A, 6: Solid color leotard, pink or tan tights, pink split-sole leather or canvas ballet shoes (Bloch #203, #213, #261 or similar). Optional: short skirt (print or solid), black fitted leggings/capris.

Tap Levels 1, 2: Black leotard, pink tights, white tap shoes with buckles attached (Theatrical™ #122 or #225). No ribbon ties.

Tap Level 3: Black leotard, pink or tan tights, tan tap shoes (Bloch #302).

Tap Levels 4, 5B, 5A: Solid color leotard, pink or tan tights, tan tap shoes (Bloch #302 or #323). Optional: black fitted shorts or black capris.

Tap Level 6: Solid color leotard, tights, black fitted shorts or capris, black tap pull-on with no laces (Bloch #389 or similar).

Jazz (all levels): Solid color leotard, pink or tan tights, tan split-sole pull-on jazz shoe (Bloch #431, #481, #495, or Dance Class GB601 Nude color or similar). Optional: black fitted shorts or black capris.

Modern: Solid color leotard, convertible or footless tights, bare feet. Optional: black fitted shorts or black capris.

Hip Hop: No dress code. Black split-sole dance sneakers.

Boys: Black ballet, tap, or jazz shoes; black pants or shorts with white or black tee/tank.
